Trump Deals Protestantism a Deadly Blow

America was Methodist, once upon a time—Methodist, or Baptist, or Presbyterian, or Congregationalist, or Episcopalian, or even Seventh-day Adventist.

We typically think of Protestantism originating from the work of several theologians starting in the 12th century. However, inspiration tells us that Protestantism existed in the time of Jesus and the disciples.

Christ was a protestant.  He protested against the formal worship of the Jewish nation, who rejected the counsel of God against themselves. He told them that they taught for doctrines the commandments of men, and that they were pretenders and hypocrites. Like whited sepulchers they were beautiful without, but within full of impurity and corruption. The Reformers date back to Christ and the apostles. They came out and separated themselves from a religion of forms and ceremonies. Luther and his followers did not invent the reformed religion. They simply accepted it as presented by Christ and the apostles. The Bible is presented to us as a sufficient guide; but the pope and his workers remove it from the people as if it were a curse, because it exposes their pretensions and rebukes their idolatry. (The Review and Herald, June 1, 1886)

The Protestants’ Spirit-led outcry against the spurious religious system left them subject to persecution by the Roman Catholic Church, and thus were kept isolated in obscurity until the 16th century. One of the early Protestant reformers was John Wycliffe, a theologian and an early proponent of reform in the 14th century. He influenced Jan Hus, a Czech priest from Prague, who in turn influenced German monk Martin Luther, who reignited the Protestant Reformation. Originally, Luther intended to reform the Roman Catholic Church rather than break it up.

The events leading to the Protest of Rome and the birth of a Christian nation called The United States of America have their roots in Bible prophecy, in particular the books of Daniel and the Revelation. On Thursday, May 4, 2017, President Donald J. Trump, in fulfillment of another prophecy, inked his latest executive order giving churches “religious liberty” to become legally involved in the political process.

America is typified in Revelation 13:11-12 as the beast coming out of the earth having two horns like a lamb and speaking as a dragon. Just as in times past, prophecy is being fulfilled once again as the lamb-like beast is seeking to give power back to the first beast of Revelation 13 (Papal Rome).

During President Trump’s inaugural speech, he was emphatic that he would give America back to the people. He is not inhibited in his effort to deliver on his promises to the Catholic and Evangelical leaders in giving them a voice in governmental affairs. Trump has recently gone on record stating that he is going on a foreign mission to unite all of the religions. His latest executive order empowers the churches to pressure politicians for laws that will culminate in America persecuting those who are true to the bible Sabbath.

The dignitaries of Church and State will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth, and in order to secure public favor, legislators will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost this nation so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected. In the soon-coming conflict we shall see exemplified the prophet’s words: “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went tomake war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” [Revelation 12:17.]
Our land is in jeopardy. The time is drawing on when its legislators shall so abjure the principles of Protestantism as to give countenance to Romish apostasy. The people for whom God has so marvelously wrought, strengthening them to throw off the galling yoke of popery, will by a national act give vigor to the corrupt faith of Rome, and thus arouse the tyranny which only waits for a touch to start again into cruelty and despotism. With rapid steps are we already approaching this period. When Protestant churches shall seek the support of the secular power, thus following the example of that apostate church, for opposing which their ancestors endured the fiercest persecution, then will there be a national apostasy which will end only in national ruin.  (The Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 4, p. 410)

Now more than ever, it is high time to awake out of sleep. The final movements of Earth’s history will be rapid ones. Our heavenly High Priest is soon to end His work of atonement and every case will soon be decided. It is dire that we come into a loving, saving relationship with Christ as we are closer than ever to the close of human probation. Won’t you allow Christ to have total control of your life today? Will you commit yourself to warning others that they may be ready to meet their Savior in peace? “…To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7

The Watchman

The Watchman

In a special sense Seventh-day Adventists have been set in the world as watchmen and light - bearers. To them has been entrusted the last warning for a perishing world. On them is shining wonderful light from the Word of God. They have been given a work of the most solemn import, - the proclamation of the first, second, and third angels’ messages. There is no other work of so great importance. They are to allow nothing else to absorb their attention. Evangelism, p. 119

Words of Life

As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

— Daniel 9:13
